What Is CFSS?

Like PCAs, CFSSs provide support to seniors, children with autism, and adults with disabilities to live more independently in the comfort of their own homes.

But CFSSs go beyond that by giving people more choice about how they receive services, including:

Who can provide services?

  • Increased opportunities for self-determination
  • Extra support in creating a service delivery plan
  • The ability to purchase products that promote independence

Is CFSS the Future of PCA Services?

Is CFSS the Future of PCA Services

**Yes, this transition brings added benefits to both care recipients and family caregivers in Minnesota.**

It's important to note that the qualification criteria for CFSS are identical to those for PCA. Therefore, if you're currently receiving PCA services, you can expect to transition to CFSS during your upcoming annual reassessment, assuming there are no changes in your health that would affect your eligibility.

Additionally, the CFSS program will take the place of the state-funded Consumer Support Grant (CSG), offering a more streamlined and supportive option for those who qualify.

How Do PCA and CFSS Differ?

CFSS Offers Expanded Support Options for Independent Living

Added Workers

This is exciting news for spouses and parents caring for a minor who requires home care services. Under the old PCA program, these family members were not eligible to be hired or paid for the care they provided, often leaving their crucial efforts uncompensated.

With the introduction of the CFSS program, that’s changing. Now, a spouse or the parent of a child can officially work as a support provider and earn compensation for the care they offer.

Check out Minnesota DHS’s video to learn more about who can become a support worker.

CFSS (Community First Services and Supports) Worker Training and Development in Minnesota is an essential part of ensuring that personal care assistants (PCAs) and other direct care workers are well-prepared to provide high-quality services to individuals with disabilities or chronic health conditions. Training for CFSS workers is designed to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to meet the needs of people with disabilities and promote their independence, dignity.

Under the CFSS program in Minnesota, the purchase of goods helps individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions live more independently and safely. It includes the acquisition of assistive devices, home modifications, and other essential items that support the person’s care plan. Purchases must be approved and align with the individual’s needs, and the program provides flexibility for people to manage their care in a way that best suits their lifestyle.

Agency model is the same as how PCA program is right now. The agency handles the training, and supervision of the caregivers and other direct care workers. ATRIO is an approved CFSS agency model and we are ready to help you.
